The Tonbridge Driving School currently has 3 experienced instructors:
Peter Brett has worked as an instructor in Tonbridge since about 1997 and has an envious reputation for getting his students to a very high standard.
Peter says "I have been a Driving Instructor since 1997 and I have now achieved Grade 5 status. I operate around Tonbridge, and surrounding areas and I prefer to take tests in Sevenoaks, where I personally know the examiners and the test routes.
I am registered with local councils to teach the Taxi Driver/Private Hire Test and I qualified as a Fleet Driving Instuctor in 2005. I am also Pass Plus registered and qualified to train new instructors. I have a high first time pass rate and I welcome both the young, and the I try as much as possible to teach in 2hr lessons. This gives me the flexibility to cover a bigger area in order to teach any given subject."
not so young. I am very patient and I have successfully taught pupils who were nervous, dyslexic, partially disabled, and one young lad who suffered from Asbergers syndrome. All have now passed.
Simon O'Connell joined us is 2010 having been an instructor in the Tonbridge area trading under the name of White Rabbit Driving School, he lives and works in Tonbridge, but predominantly covers Sevenoaks.
He is Pass Plus registered, and is also on the DIA’s Diamond Approved Taxi-Driver Trainer (DATT) register.
In 2007 he developed ‘Motoring Stress Management’ ©, an NLP-based system to help nervous drivers.
A keen gardener, Simon is also studying for a BSc in Landscape Management at Hadlow College, and is really enjoying the variety of the working week; being able to do both degree work and teach people to drive.
Simon plays bass guitar, keyboards and also provides backing vocals for a 70s Glam Rock Tribute band, at venues across the South East of England, and says that it’s ‘a great opportunity to dress up like an idiot, play silly songs and get the crowd going!’ Simon is well-known for his light-hearted approach to life, and can easily calm tense situations with a joke.
David Steelsmith was the Area Manager for The Big Red L Company. However, he now works as an associate instructor. David has excellent qualities as an instructor and we know he will transfer these skills into managing the team of quality instructors we are building in the region. A gifted communicator who always seems highly motivated to bring out the best in each of his pupils. He has an excellent set of driving test results. He has been developing his skills as a driving instructor by taking an excellent coaching and assessing course. David is one of our most patient instructors and gives great support to the most nervous of pupils. David enjoys travel, motorsport and skiing.
